Finished the epic ride today. 12 days on road, with 10 days of riding. Good weather all along except in California, ironically. Rode through severe rain for some stretches near Los Angeles on I-5. Crashed (dropped bike) at 20mph out of my stupidity (locked front brake) while getting frustrated on a choked, crawling I-5. No injuries to me except for a bruised ego, but the right front tip-over bar of the bike took it all, and I need to replace only the brackets and thats it.
4700 miles total. Silverhorse didn’t miss a single beat. I only gassed and rode morning to evening. Tires held up the pressure perfectly. The connie will stay with me forever. There can’t be a better test of a bike’s worth than a trip like this.
A detailed writeup is now overdue. I will put that in a dedicated part of my homepage and share the link here.
Congrats Joy!!! it truly is an epic ride!! I have been following your daily updates and am glad to know you made it there safe. Now I know who to talk to when I plan an ultra- long distance ride myself!

Feel delighted to be a fellow Santiniketani
You truly are an inspiration! And crazy too! I was like Francesco - thought about you every night… wondering if. Was not going to include your story in the Zine because had not heard from you in so long was worried… but its partially there now and will go out tonight. Congrats! It really was an epic trip. And for those of you who do not know Joy and wonder why we find him so inspirational - not only did he do this as an international grad student learning about the US in the process after having only lived in the States for 2 years… Joy has been completely deaf since contracting measles when he was 2 years old. He really is one amazing guy!

Nice ride, Last year I drove from Zeist (holland) To the Nordcape than to Tarifa in the south of Spain and back to Zeist. 13.995 km in 13 days. 1074 km daily on a long distace test bike , the Honda Pan European ST 1300. Northcape-Tarifa=6500km in 5 days. It is possible to the that faster.

Joy’s deaf??? He spent many hours at my house and we never noticed…
Next time you come to my house or if I come to yours, I’ll cook an “American” dish like hamburgers and hotdogs…
Remember the good parts of the journey and consider the bad parts an education toward better future journeys.
You done good, young man.
