How much of a factor is the weight difference between a smaller bike and one of the sport tourers? I have an '83 Nighthawk 550 that's supposed to be 452lbs and the st1300 is listed at 640lbs.

I can only get the front half of my foot down on my bike but that's enough to shove it backwards, etc. I've dropped it a couple of times and leg-pressed it up OK. It looks like the seat can be set lower on the ST so I would think I'd have even better control flat-footed.

I'm not really concerned with the weight on the road, just wondering about getting it in and out of the garage, etc.

I really enjoy reading your blog. I too owned a 93 VT 600 for my first bike, then a 94 GL1500 Goldwing. Even at my 5 feet 11 inches tall and 255lbs. A Goldwing is a LOT of bike and expensive to maintain. I traded the Wing for a 2000 Concours and absloutely love it. Perfect all around commuter, better gas milage than a Wing AND more power! I alos like the fact that it weighs a few hundred pounds less AND has a bigger gas tank too!
Last december I broke my right leg just above the ankle, I was riding the Connie 4 months later. If I still owned the Wing I wouldn't be able to ride it even now. Only problem I ever had is when I took the used the Connie to complete a rider safety course. I had filled the tank just before doing the course which made it top heavy. Neither I, nor the instructor could not do the "S" turn on it!
Good luck and safe riding!
